MAKING IT COUNT – ACCOUNTANTS FIGHTING CANCER

Welcome to our newly-launched campaign to work with the accountancy community to help raise money for my Foundation.

In 2003 I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia and was lucky enough to receive a bone marrow transplant from my sister which saved my life. Other blood cancer sufferers aren’t as fortunate as me.  They need new state-of-the-art drugs to save their lives.

Along my journey and inspired by Professor Charlie Craddock, the doctor who treated me in Birmingham, I became aware that in this country we are the world leader in the development of new life-saving drugs for leukaemia and other blood cancers, but we simply don’t have the infrastructure to make sure that UK patients benefit from the trialling of these drugs.

So this is where I come in.  The missing link, as simple as it sounds, are research nurses who can get these new drugs into patients who would otherwise die because of the lack of other treatment options.   We have identified six leading leukaemia centres in this country to work with and by the end of 2009, my aim is to make sure these centres have nurses in place so that they are ready to administer new drugs into patients and give them the chance of living.

The Accountants Fighting Cancer Campaign is a collaboration between three major players in the accountancy industry – AVN, Iris and Accountingweb – and we are thrilled to have them supporting us.  We hope that other partners will join us too as the campaign gathers pace.

We also want your practice to make the most of the relationship with us and, as you will see as you read on, we have suggested a number of ways in which we can interact and work with you to gain publicity for your business.
